This week, Ohio Governor John Kasich commuted a second death sentence this year. Joseph Murphy, convicted of murdering a 72 year old widow in 1987, was scheduled to die at the hands of the state on October 18. Now he will serve a life sentence with no chance of parole, thanks to the Governor and recommendations by the parole board.

A 25 year old Columbus woman will be walking free from the Ohio Reformatory for Women soon as an appeals court recently overturned her conviction for a string of thefts and the death of a mall shopper back in 2005 according to the Columbus Dispatch. One of her codefendants may have a similar outcome soon though three more will likely have to serve out their sentences. [read more...]
