Is Cincinnati Neighborhood the Most Crime-Ridden in Country?
Critics are complaining that the statistics used in a recent crime analysis posted online are not reliable enough to have any validity when determining the most dangerous communities in the country. The #1 most dangerous streets on the list are in the Over the Rhine (OTR) neighborhood of Cincinnati.
WalletPop.com states their information came from FBI statistics. Critics, like those featured in this Cincinnati.com article point out those stats were from 2005-2007 and aren’t applicable anymore. Since that time, they state, the OTR community has seen dropping crime rates.
The Wallet Pop article says that there is a 1 in 4 chance of becoming the victim of a crime while living in that area in any given year. This is a astronomical figure and no doubt one that community leaders would want to douse.
High crime neighborhoods exist in every city in the United States. No one city is immune to poverty and the higher crime rates that seem to go with it. Typically in these neighborhoods you see higher drug crimes and property crimes.
Things like drug possession and possession with intent to distribute are commonly seen in high crime neighborhoods as are car thefts and criminal damage. While these neighborhoods may see more of these offenses, it doesn’t mean other communities are immune.
People concerned with the reliability of the piece know how a bad reputation can hurt a community. Part of the OTR neighborhood has actually seen a decrease of 37% in crime since 2004. A study that falsely implicates it as being extremely dangerous can discourage people from moving to the area or wanting to do business there.
Crime occurs in every neighborhood. There is no question it happens in some more than others. The key to changing this is addressing the causes and dealing with prevention.

If you are facing a potential jail sentence, we may be able to work something out so you can serve probation instead. Alternatives like this exist to make it easier for people to pay for their crime while simultaneously remaining within the community.
